Welcome to SUNSET LOFT

A BIG WARM WELCOME TO
SUNSET LOFT

We know that you can’t wait to get out and explore amazing Cape Town!
So here is just very briefly the most important information for you to make the most of your stay…

IN YOUR ROOM

STAY CONNECTED

Choose the wireless network for your room or the one with the best signal. Password is monkey47 for all networks!

CHECK IN/OUT

Ask us and we will try to meet your requirements. You can always keep the luggage in the house after checking out of your room. Just take all the time you need to say good-bye or to add a bit more extra luggage.

YOUR VALUABLES

Each room is equipped with an electronic safe in the cupboard. It is open and the instructions to set your personal security code are in the safe. So better take the manual out before you lock the safe! And please remember to leave the safe open/unlocked when you check out!

ABOUT THE REMOTE ON YOUR HOUSE KEY

You don’t need to be an engineer to understand the functions of the remote control! It’s as simple as that:
> Blue: Operates the driveway electric gate (sometimes). If not use your muscle power and report please!
> Red: Outside Alarm on/off (if you press it by accident, you will hear a beep in the house, just press it again)

SLEEPING MODE

Some people might have had an exhausting day exploring all the lovely things in Cape Town and would love to have a nice relaxing sleep to recharge their batteries.
For a good neighborhood please respect the night’s rest from 11 pm to 8 am.

IN AND AROUND THE HOUSE

KITCHEN

It is more than enough space for everybody! Just look for your room number on a sticker on the shelves or in the refrigerator.

> If you want to have a braai you will find the grill outside on the terrace. Braai wood is available at the petrol station or you should find some underneath the braai!

> Please load your dirty dishes into the dishwasher. If you want to be even nicer you could press the “start” button and you get a big smile from Ellen! The things that love to be washed by hand you can leave in the scullery and Ellen will take care of it.

HOUSEKEEPING

In high season, you will see Ellen usually on weekdays preparing your room, bathroom and the rest of the house. If you really require fresh towels, leave your used towels on the floor but please consider twice if it’s really necessary.

SWIMMING POOL

Sometimes the pool is covered to keep the water temperature at a comfortable level. If you feel like swimming just roll it up with the handle on the side of the wooden box. Sunbed cushions are available in the small garage, please put them back in the evening. You will find beach towels at the entrance. Please do not use our white towels for the beach. They wouldn’t stay white and Ellen would be really sad.

PARKING

Please park your car in front of the big white garage door in 4, Isabella Road (3 cars fit) and on the grey gravel next to the wall (2 cars fit). And don’t leave your laptop in the car.

CLOSING OF MAIN DOOR

When you leave the house especially during the evening please make sure the main door on the terrace of the house is locked!

BEYOND

TELEPHONE

The easiest is to get a local prepaid SIM card which is available in supermarkets, petrol stations and shopping centers.

JUST SOME IMPORTANT TELEPHONE NUMBERS

> taxi: +27 21 44 84444 or use UBER (our address: 4, Isabella road, Sunset-Beach, Milnerton)

> Ellen – our manager and angel of the house: +27 (0) 73 612 0300

> emergency number: 10177

FOODY HOTSPOTS

Here are our favourites restaurants!

AND EVERY DROP COUNTS!

In 2017/18, we were facing quite drastically water restrictions because of the serious draught after extremely low winter rainfall.

Luckily dam levels look good for the 2021/22 season here in Cape Town but the situation in other parts of the Cape region is still very alarming.

Remember: The time to save water is when there is water to save!

We have three own boreholes for our house which helps but it is still important to keep the water consumption low.

Please help us:
> use the small button for toilet flushing
> use your towels as long as possible
> the dishwasher consumes a lot of water – keep your glasses and cups on your shelf and use them all day
> shower time conscious (sandglasses for 2 min in the showers for 2 people) – or together!
> and just be aware of all the advices our parents gave us – “stop the water while soaping or while brushing your teeth” and so on…

The City of Cape Town is controlling the water consumptions quite accurately. If it’s not within the limit hefty fines and further drastic restrictions will be imposed. Things that we definitely want to avoid.

We here at Sunset Loft care a lot…

… ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT AND SUSTAINABILITY

CLEANING PRODUCTS

We are changing all our cleaning products and also the hand soap in the dispenser in your room to the amazing products from “better earth” (check out their website www.betterearth.co.za), a local South African company. Their products are

> free of sulphated surfactants, parabens, animal products and synthetic fragrances
> never tested on animals and are endorsed by ‘Beauty Without Cruelty’ and ‘The Vegan Society’
> completely bio-degradable

They support ethical farmers all the time and local farmers wherever possible and manufacture locally with every effort made to reduce our carbon footprint.

We are very happy that we found them as they fulfill all criteria that are important to us.

SOLAR PANELS FOR THE GEYSER

In 2018, we installed a state of the art solar panel system on the roof to heat up your water for the shower. By doing so we could drastically reduce the energy consumption and are independent from any inconveniences that frequent load shedding might cause.

COFFEE CAPSULES

As soon as our stock of Nespresso Capsules will be depleted we will change to BIODEGRADABLE capsules from CocoSafar. CocoSafar is an amazing all day café located in Seapoint. They produce home compostable, oxygen tight BIO-CAPSULES and offer a wide selection of fine freshly roasted coffees curated from the finest specialty beans and regions around.

So, if you go there to check out their whole capsule emporium and buy some capsules for our Nespresso Machine here at the house just plan enough time for it! As they state on their website: “From breakfast to lunch, casual dining to desserts, you’ll be spoilt for choice by our menus that aim to indulge and surprise with every visit.”

… ABOUT YOUR SAFETY

NEW ALARM SYSTEM

We renewed the whole alarm system - not only the switch board but also all outside beams!

BURGLAR-PROOFED SHUTTERS

… are now installed in every room and all communal areas. Additionally, we installed a new entrance door with burglar-proofed glass and a security lock.

GARDEN GATE

The garden gate will be closed every night from 8 pm to 7 am. During night, you can always enter the garden using the sliding gate at the small garage or the entrance door next to the big garage that opens with the small key attached to your key ring.

… AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST ABOUT OUR STAFF

ELLEN, THE ANGEL OF THE HOUSE

As you might have noticed when you stayed with us before, we did some little changes on the building. We built a very nice studio apartment for Ellen! Since 2019 she finally lives here with us at Sunset Loft.

And we are more than happy to have her here!

We are very happy about all these improvements for you and at the same time we also promise: We won’t stop to improve!

Thank you so much for being our guests – we love having you here!
